Safety and security minister Charles Nqakula has been given two weeks to comply with a court order to rebuild squatters' shacks in Pretoria.
Pretoria High Court judge Bill Prinsloo has condemned Nqakula's department for failing to comply with an urgent court order, granted nine days ago. The order gave Nqakula and the police 12 hours to rebuild the shacks in Moreleta Park. The squatters living there obtained the order after they were unlawfully evicted and their shacks demolished.
In his latest order, Prinsloo has ruled that Nqakula must appear personally before the court to show that he has complied with the court order. Failing this, the minister faces jail or a R10 000 fine for contempt of court.
